This Tow'dster Was Tow'dally Worth It!
Gator Motorsports, the University of Florida's Formula SAE team, pushes the limits of electric race car design with their custom-built battery pack and carbon fiber monocoque. See how they used P-17 high- temperature filler to achieve their goals!
Gator Motorsports, the Formula SAE team at the University of Florida, competes annually in the FSAE EV Michigan competition. The team aims to design, build, and test an open-wheel electric race car annually. This past year was their second year competing in the electric division after competing in the internal combustion division for 31 years. The team's main objectives for this past year were to develop a custom-built battery pack with a composite enclosure and a full carbon fiber monocoque. To manufacture the molds used for the composite enclosure, they used the P-17 high-temperature filler. Looking ahead, Gator Motorsports' main objectives for the upcoming season are to refine their current design and rigorously test their designs on track.
The students have designed the shape and dimensions of the enclosure to accommodate the battery pack, leaving space for wiring, BMS (Battery Management System), and any cooling components.
